MND affects 1 in 300

Story

I'm going to be attempting to swim 10 whole kilometers from Totnes along the river Dart on Saturday (14th Sept) which is still a terrifying prospect despite the fact that I signed up for it nearly a year ago. Having just had a baby 6 months ago, I haven't managed to swim as much as I had hoped too - I definitely underestimated how difficult it would be after the new arrival so completing this swim will be a huge challenge.

I've ummed and aahed about raising money for charity with this event because I know that once I post this, I'll actually have to go through with the swim. The deciding factor was hearing how much help a friend of mine (Alex) has had from the MND Association since being diagnosed with MND and how much research is ongoing, through their funding, into understanding and treating the currently incurable disease.

Hearing from Alex how the disease progresses and the challenges around trying to deal with it, particularly being able to continue living at home with his family has been really eye-opening. Knowing that this could happen to any of us and transform everything in life so quickly has made me realise how valuable the support of family & friends is. Alex and his family are also trying to raise money to transform their house to make it manageable for him as the disease progresses, as well as support the MND Association so please have a look at their gofundme page as I'd love to be able to support them personally too.
